Animal Rehabilitation in Dallas, TX

Specialized chiropractic and rehabilitation care helping dogs and horses in the Dallas-Fort Worth area recover, perform, and thrive.

What is animal rehabilitation?

Animal rehabilitation goes beyond the chiropractic adjustment. Where chiropractic care focuses on restoring proper alignment and nervous system function, rehabilitation addresses the surrounding muscles, soft tissues, and movement patterns that support the spine and joints in everyday life and athletic performance.

At In Stride Chiropractic, Dr. Katie combines chiropractic care with rehabilitative techniques to give dogs and horses a more complete path to recovery, performance, and long term wellness. Rather than treating the symptom in isolation, the goal is to restore the whole animal to full function and teach owners how to support that function at home between visits.

This integrated approach is particularly valuable for animals recovering from injury or surgery, animals managing chronic conditions, and performance animals looking to maximize output and minimize breakdown over a long career.

Animal rehabilitation may be right for your animal if they are:

  • Recovering from an orthopedic injury or surgery

  • Managing a chronic condition affecting mobility and quality of life

  • Showing movement compensations that keep coming back despite treatment

  • Preparing for or returning from a competition season

  • Dealing with muscle weakness, atrophy, or imbalance

  • Not progressing as expected with chiropractic care alone

  • An aging animal whose mobility and comfort you want to preserve as long as possible

What rehabilitation looks like at In Stride Chiropractic

Rehabilitation at In Stride Chiropractic is not a one size fits all protocol. Every animal receives a customized plan based on their species, condition, activity level, and goals. Dr. Katie takes the time to understand the full picture before building a plan. Instead of relying on fancy gimmicks, Dr. Katie she teaches owners how to be an active part of their animal's recovery.

Evaluation and Movement Assessment

Every rehabilitation plan starts with a thorough evaluation. Dr. Katie assesses posture, gait, muscle symmetry, joint mobility, and neurological function to build a complete picture of where the animal is and what they need to get where they are going.

Chiropractic Integration

Rehabilitation and chiropractic care work together at In Stride. Spinal alignment and nervous system function directly impact how well an animal responds to rehabilitation, and rehabilitation supports the structural changes that chiropractic care creates. The two are more effective together than either is alone.

Customized Home Exercise Program

One of the most important parts of rehabilitation is what happens between visits. Dr. Katie sends every owner home with a customized program of exercises and supportive techniques they can do at home to reinforce progress and accelerate recovery.

Progress Tracking and Plan Adjustments

Rehabilitation is not a straight line. Dr. Katie monitors progress at every visit and adjusts the plan as your animal responds, plateaus, or reaches new milestones. The goal is always forward momentum toward full function.

Conditions We Commonly Address With Rehabilitation

Dr. Katie uses rehabilitation techniques alongside chiropractic care to address a wide range of conditions in dogs and horses. These are some of the most common reasons animal owners seek out rehabilitation care.

Post-Surgical Recovery

Surgery is often just the beginning of the recovery process. Rehabilitation after orthopedic procedures helps restore strength, mobility, and movement patterns that surgery alone cannot address. Dr. Katie works alongside your veterinarian to make sure the rehabilitation plan supports and complements the surgical outcome.

Muscle Weakness and Atrophy

Injury, illness, and extended rest can all lead to significant muscle loss and weakness. Targeted rehabilitation exercises rebuild strength progressively and restore the muscular support that joints and the spine depend on for long term soundness.

Chronic Pain and Mobility Issues

Animals managing chronic conditions like arthritis, hip dysplasia, or degenerative joint disease often benefit significantly from a combined chiropractic and rehabilitation approach. The goal is not just pain management but meaningful improvement in function and quality of life.

Movement Compensations

When an animal favors one area of the body, the rest of the body compensates. Over time those compensatory patterns create new areas of tension, weakness, and dysfunction. Rehabilitation identifies and addresses those patterns before they become the next injury.

Neurological Conditions

Animals recovering from neurological events or managing conditions that affect coordination and movement can benefit from rehabilitation techniques that support nervous system function and help rebuild normal movement patterns.

Performance Breakdown

When a performance animal stops progressing or begins breaking down despite training, rehabilitation can identify the underlying physical contributors and build a plan to address them systematically rather than just pushing through.

Senior Animal Mobility

Aging animals often accept a gradual decline in mobility as inevitable. A combined chiropractic and rehabilitation approach can meaningfully slow that decline, improve comfort, and help senior dogs and horses stay active and engaged for longer.

Why animal owners in Dallas choose In Stride for rehabilitation

Rehabilitation is only as good as the practitioner delivering it. Dr. Katie brings a level of training, credential depth, and genuine investment in outcomes that sets In Stride Chiropractic apart from standard animal chiropractic practices in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Chiropractic Plus Rehabilitation

Most animal chiropractors offer adjustments only. Dr. Katie integrates rehabilitation into every care plan that calls for it, giving your animal a more complete path to recovery and long term wellness than chiropractic care alone can provide.

Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner Training

Dr. Katie is currently completing her Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner credential through the University of Tennessee, one of the most respected canine rehabilitation programs in the country. This advanced training directly informs the rehabilitation care she provides at In Stride Chiropractic.

AVCA Certified

Dr. Katie holds certification from the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association, the gold standard credential in animal chiropractic care. Her chiropractic foundation gives her rehabilitation work a structural context that most rehabilitation practitioners do not have.

You Are Part of the Process

Rehabilitation does not end when your animal leaves the clinic. Dr. Katie teaches every owner how to support their animal's recovery at home between visits with a customized home exercise program. Your involvement is not optional, it is essential, and Dr. Katie makes sure you feel confident and capable before your visit is complete.

Collaborative Care

Dr. Katie works directly with your veterinarian throughout the rehabilitation process to make sure your animal's care is fully integrated and that every member of the health team is working toward the same goal.

"Dr. Lackey Has Been So Good"

Dr. Lackey has been so good. We are driving from Farmersville about 40 miles to Carrollton.
She’s well worth the drive! She’s quick to respond if we have questions, and is so sweet and patient with my older pup.

"Chasing Balls And Bubbles Like A Puppy"

Our 11-year-old dog has hip dysplasia, and we were willing to try anything to keep her comfortable. That’s when we found Dr. Lackey. She is incredibly kind and gentle with Maggie, and thanks to her care, Maggie is running and jumping again—chasing balls and bubbles like a puppy.

She’s clearly in much less pain since starting treatment. If you’re looking for a great chiropractor, look no further than In Stride Chiropractic.

"Thanks For All You Have Done"

Dr. Lackey has been treating my horse routinely for the last couple months. During my ground work and dressage my horse was having a difficult time flexing at the poll. I have seen significant benefit not only on the flat, but in our jumping too.

Our show jumping looks way more effortless and she seems to have relief in her back now too. She can really get her legs under her and isn’t jumping so flat. Thanks for all you have done, Dr. Lackey!!

"Couldn't Be Happier With The Care"

We’ve been taking our dog Jack to In Stride and couldn’t be happier with the care he’s received. When we first started going, Jack was having pain just walking, but now he’s doing so much better — even asking to go on walks again! Dr. Lackey is amazing with him.

She takes her time, clearly loves dogs, and really knows her stuff. She’ll even get down on the floor with Jack to help him feel comfortable and relaxed during his session. She also gives us clear, simple exercises to do at home and uses a variety of innovative treatments in the office. We’re so grateful for the difference she’s made — highly recommend In Stride to anyone who loves their dog!
